Bring in the New Year

Hello 2011. How's it going? Not great? Really? Hmmm... Can we have a do over?

This past weekend, Isla developed a serious case of Viral Bronchiolitis and we had 4 hospital visits in 2 days and then were admitted last night to Primary Children's Hospital in SLC. NOT FUN! Here is the blow by blow for posterity's sake.

Isla had been sick on and off for the past two weeks, but had never developed into something requiring serious attention.
Friday night, we noticed her breathing had gotten really bad and decided to watch her closely over night, just in case we had to go to the hospital.
Saturday at around 4 am we headed down to a hospital in Ogden, (from my parent's place in Huntsville) and went to the ER. They did some tests, took chest x-rays, and generally made her hate our guts, but in the end she was negative for pneumonia and RSV.
They said it was viral bronchiolitis and that there wasn't a whole lot that could be done except give her a breathing treatment and deep suction of her nose. She seemed to respond well to those and we were sent home.
She was fine throughout the day, but steadily grew worse again by nighttime, so we went back to their respiratory clinic at 9pm for another suction.
She slept decently until about 4 again and so we went back to the clinic for another breathing treatment. Unfortunately, this time the treatment didn't bring her stats back up, so we had to go to the ER to get set up with oxygen and to talk to the doctors about the possibility of admitting her.
We didn't admit her there because the oxygen made her all better and so we went back to my parents to sleep.
After a two hour nap Isla woke up even worse than before. After a blessing, we loaded the car and headed down to SLC Primary Children's, where we felt more comfortable being admitted.
After all the same tests were performed as before, and a more serious breathing treatment, they admitted her and put her an oxygen tube on her.
I stayed the night with her, and man, what a night it was. The oxygen made all her actual symptoms and sickiness get better, but she was so scared in the strange room with strange people prodding her at regular intervals throughout the night that she (and I) barely slept!
Monday morning came with huge differences. She had responded so well to the oxygen that they slowly weaned her off of it. They said as long as I could get her to eat well and she continued to not show signs of bad lungs, they would send her home that day! I was super happy 'cause that was one of the WORST night sleeps I had ever had. Worse than when she was a brand new newborn.
We left the hospital at 5 and she's now asleep in bed for the night! Fingers crossed that she only gets better as time goes by!!
