SLC Creepy Tour

This past Friday, after eating dinner with family for Bart's B-day, we went to hang out with our friends Bryan and Dawn in SLC. It was pretty classic, because we got to their apt and sat on the couch and realized that even in SLC, we couldn't think of anything to do at 9:00 at night. Amazing, it wasn't just a Provo thing. Bryan suggested that we go visit some cool creepy spots that none of us had heard of, and thus, the creepy tour began.

#1 Gilgal Gardens 749 East 500 South (look carefully - you'll probably pass it)
This place would be a trip at any time of day, but I suggest the 'early' night/twilight visit. It's technically closed, but they don't shut the gate. The guy who did all the sculptures there wasn't trying to be weird or sacrilegious. These weird sculptures actually meant something legit to him.

Yes, That's Joseph Smith's head on a Sphinx. Dead serious.

#2 Hobbitville (13th E. across from Westminster)
This place is just weird. It's private access, so you are totally trespassing if you go down the road and they actually had someone 'guarding' the place when we drove down the driveway. It's BIZARRE. The stories go that there are a bunch of midgets that live there, but then I've heard that it's an old bird sanctuary too. Some friends have gone down there and had midgets run them out, other's had rocks thrown at them. We got this scary looking Native American guy staring us down as we pulled some excuse out of thin air as to why we were there.
Google it - it's full of mystery.

#3 Gravity Hill (E. Capitol Blvd - although the location is still undetermined for me)
Okay, we tried and failed. My sister Rachel has done it twice, so she's going to take us back and we'll try again, but man, it was still sketchy even trying 'cause once again, you're technically driving down the wrong way on a one-way road. The guys thought we were going to get pulled over so we only tried for a few minutes.

We went home after that 'cause it was truly late at that point. I would also suggest peaking through the windows on the first floor of the old mental hospital around 300 W and 8th N in SLC (basically beck st.) If you look through those windows you can see the padded doors with bars on the windows. SOO Spooky!

Do you know any other creepy places we should visit next time??

this is so funny Meriel because growing up in SLC, you learn them all. Bret and I have been to Gil Gal already and you're right, it's much better at night. Another one is this scary old house that looks straight out of a horror film with an overgrown pool on the property. We call it the black pond and visiting it is like a rite of passage if you went to high school in salt lake. There's also hobbitville and the blue lady apparition. I'm full of these.

Ok, I totally love that you did all the fun things I used to do in high school. The mental hospital you were talking about - is that the same one as the old children's hospital? If not, go to the old children's hospital. One time we broke in and found old medical charts and read them - kinda creepy. There's also a place in Sandy by Jordan High School that used to make vaults for caskets. We used to call it "coffin house". It's totally scary because you have to walk over an old creaky bridge to get to it. That's all I can think of right now. I love that you are doing this! You make me laugh.
